China
This is the old China, Gansu Province. These pictures were taken in a small village between Lanzhou and Tianshui.
Those are pictures of a village, these are towns and cities of Northwest China. Most speak for themselves but a few need some explanation. The street food sellers are great, the best potato chips in Tianshui and candied fruit. The man making the multicolored wreath is making a funeral wreath. These are a small window into the cities, towns, and people of rural Northwest of China.
The New China
These pictures are the new China, the South. The South of China is rich. These pictures were taken in the South of China and Beijing. The man who could pass for local on most American Indian Reservations was selling crickets on the street in Beijing. There are other pictures, tourist attractions like the Great Wall, the Ming tombs and the Dali city gate (some of the other things that we must see and photograph in China) but I'm more interested in the people. There are many temples in China but the little girl watching the folk artist make a toy from dough was unique.
